We are an organisation for people living with diabetes run by people living with diabetes. We recognise that when one person in a family lives with diabetes, this affects other family members and we offer support to partners and parents. We raise awareness of important issues for people with diabetes and provide information in non-medical language.

Synthetic GM 'human' insulin versus natural animal insulin
Some people have adverse effects when using synthetic GM 'human' insulin which was introduced without any evidence of benefit. We campaign for the continued availability of natural animal insulins and believe that people with diabetes should be an informed choice of treatment including the risks and benefits of both animal and synthetic GM insulins. Living with diabetes requires information and knowledge
It is not always easy to remember everything we are told by healthcare professionals so we provide information on many aspects of diabetes and its complications with practical information gathered from the experiences of people who live with diabetes.

Position Statement on the use of all species of insulin - from the International Diabetes Federation
March 2005

'There is no overwhelming evidence to prefer one species of insulin over another' and 'until GM insulin analogues are proven to deliver real long-term benefits safely and affordably, it seems appropriate to use then in patients experiencing specific problems……'
